Sumner County, Tennessee

Sumner County, Tennessee was established in 1786 (when what is now Tennessee was a portion of North Carolina), from the eastern portion of Davidson County (Nashville).  Gallatin, the county seat, is the second oldest county seat in the state.

The new county was named for French and Indian War soldier and Revolutionary War General Jethro Sumner.  It is located in the uppermost portion of the state, abutting Allen County, Kentucky.
